A note from the Director of the Spartanburg Youth Theatre

The Spartanburg Youth theatre is where I first developed my love for theatre. My first onstage role was as Scrooge’s nephew in A Christmas Carol in 2001. I was ‘bit by the theatre bug’ and theatre continued to be an integral part of my life throughout high school, college, and now as my career. My experience as a child at the Spartanburg Youth Theatre was an instrumental part of my growth not only as an actor, but as a person as well. I am beyond honored to direct an organization that means so much to me.

Every year, hundreds of curious and eager young children pass through the doors of our Youth Theatre classroom, ready to learn, to play, and to imagine.  Some are more timid and shy like I was, and others are more self-assured, but they always inevitably leave as more creative and confident individuals with a newfound sense of community and an appreciation for the value of teamwork and cooperation.

As demand for our Youth Theatre educational programming grows, so does our responsibility to continue to improve classroom safety and to create an inspiring and effective learning environment.   Our Youth Theatre classroom at the Chapman Cultural Center has served us well for 12 years, but it is time for our educational spaces to receive much needed renovations and improvements that will allow us to continue to inspire learning and curiosity in our youngest performers.

These improvements include:

  • Installing carpet to improve classroom safety

  • Aesthetic improvements (new paint, furniture, photos from recent SYT productions, etc.)

  • Organizational tools and technology for students and teachers to create a more functional learning environment

  • Wall-mounted first aid kits

As we continue into 2020, we are thankful to have your support and hope you will consider us in your end-of-year giving. Your gift will help us ensure that we can continue to inspire the love of theatre and the performing arts in children at the youngest age.  Many thanks and Happy Holidays.

Sincerely yours,

Adam Sanders
