How Auditions Work

Your Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1:

Arrive & Check In - Head to the theatre during the audition window (5:30-7:30pm). We highly recommend filling out your audition form in advance to save time, but you can also complete it when you arrive—no stress either way! You'll also fill out a conflict calendar at check-in, then receive your audition number.

Step 2:

Relax & Wait Your Turn - Actors are seen in the order they arrive. Once you've auditioned, you're free to leave—no need to stay for the full session. Use your wait time to warm up, run through your material, and get in the zone!

Step 3:

Your Moment Arrives - When it's your turn, we'll escort you to the audition room. Here's where the magic happens!

⸻
In the Audition Room:

Make a Confident Entrance - Walk in with your head high and greet everyone with a warm smile. First impressions matter, and confidence is contagious!

For Musicals:

  • Head to the accompanist first and hand them your sheet music

  • Tell them where to start and stop, and your preferred tempo

  • Feel free to ask them to play the intro if you need to hear it

  • Then move to the marked X on the floor, facing the director's table

For Plays:

  • Simply walk to the marked X on the floor and get ready to perform

Trust Your Preparation - We strongly encourage complete memorization—it frees you to fully embody the character and connect with us. For musicals, bring sheet music for the accompanist, but leave lyric sheets at home. For plays, trust that you know your monologue. Actors who rely on "cheat sheets" tend to read instead of perform, and we want to see you, not the top of your head!

Slate with Confidence - Before you begin, introduce yourself briefly: "Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I'll be singing [Song Title] from [Show Name]" (or "performing a monologue from [Play/Character]"). That's it! No need to mention desired roles or past credits—that's all on your form, and the director will review it later.

Perform with Your Whole Heart

  • For Musicals: Signal the accompanist when you're ready, then go for it! Remember: singing beautifully is important, but acting the song is what sets you apart. Show us emotion, expression, and what the character is feeling. Make bold choices. Connect with the lyrics. We want to see your soul, not a blank stare!

  • For Plays: Take a moment to center yourself, then dive in when you're ready. Bring the monologue to life with genuine emotion and clear intentions. Show us who this character is through your expression, body language, and voice. Don't just recite words—live them!

Make a Gracious Exit - When you finish, thank the director and creative team for their time, then exit unless they have questions or ask you to stay. You did it!

Remember:

Every audition is a chance to learn, grow, and share your gifts. Walk in prepared, be authentically you, and leave it all on the stage.

WE’RE ROOTING FOR YOU!
