The Spartanburg Little Theatre (SLT) is a community theatre organization that has been producing live theatre in Spartanburg since 1945. It is open to the public — anyone can audition, volunteer, donate, or attend. SLT was recognized as the 2020 SC Theatre of Distinction Award winner.

In 1945, a group of people met for dinner at the Cleveland Hotel to form a literary club. That club grew into the Little Theatre of Spartanburg, which has been enriching the community through live theatre for over 75 years.

SLT performs at Chapman, located at 200 E. St. John Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Chapman has been the community’s premier venue for the performing and visual arts since 2007.

Productions & Tickets

Performances are typically Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. There is an additional Saturday matinee at 2:30pm during the 2nd or 3rd week of the run. Additional performances may be added for popular or sold-out productions.

Adult tickets are $32. Senior tickets (age 60+) are $29. Student tickets (under 25) are $22. Groups of 10 or more receive a 10% discount, automatically applied at checkout. The group discount is not valid with other promotional offers.

Tickets can be purchased through the Chapman Cultural Center ticket office at (864) 542-2787 or online at mychapman.org/events. The ticket office is open Tuesday–Thursday 10am–5pm and Friday 12–4pm (closed weekends). Whenever there is a performance, the ticket office opens two hours before curtain time.

There are no cancellations or refunds for missed performances. Ticket exchanges must be made through the ticket office at least 24 hours before the performance; exchange fees may apply. Lost or misplaced tickets can be reprinted by the ticket office upon request.

Doors open 30 minutes before show time. It’s recommended to arrive at least 15 minutes before curtain to allow time to park, pick up tickets, purchase concessions, and find your seat. Late seating is only allowed at the discretion of the House Manager. Reserved seating is held until curtain, after which alternate seating may be used.

Yes. Content advisory information for specific shows is listed on each production’s page. SLT encourages patrons to review content advisories and research each show before purchasing tickets, especially for younger audiences. The Spartanburg Youth Theatre (spartanburgyouththeatre.com) offers productions specifically designed for children and may be a better fit for young attendees.

Yes. Chapman is fully ADA compliant. All areas of the campus are handicapped accessible. The theatre has handicapped accessible seating and state-of-the-art hearing assistance technology, including traditional amplification devices and “The Loop” hearing loop technology.

There is no strict dress code. Most patrons opt for business casual attire. A sweater or light jacket is recommended for those who run cold, as the theatre is kept cool for the comfort of the performers.

Concessions including beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks are available for purchase in the theatre lobby and may be brought into the auditorium. Outside food and drink is not permitted.

No. Licensing and federal copyright laws prohibit the use of cameras, cell phones, and other recording devices during performances. Devices with screens are visible and disruptive to the cast and other patrons. Please turn off all electronic devices before entering the theatre.

Yes. Lost and found items are turned in to the Ticket Office. Call (864) 542-2787 to ask about any items you may have left at the theatre.

Yes! The cast is happy to greet patrons in the lobby immediately following each performance.

Season Tickets

Yes. Season tickets are available and provide access to all productions in the season. Visit our Season Tickets page for current pricing and options, or call the SLT office at (864) 585-8278.
SUPPORT & EDUCATION

SLT accepts donations through the Donor’s Circle ($50–$5,000) and the Legacy Circle ($25–$500). Donations can be made online on our Give page or by calling (864) 585-8278. All contributions help sustain SLT’s productions and community programming.

SLT offers three tiers of production/season sponsorship. Platinum Sponsors ($10,000) receive season-wide recognition, logo placement on all promotional materials, 50 complimentary tickets per production, lobby signage, a full-page playbill ad, and an opening night reception. Gold Sponsors ($5,000) receive the same benefits for one production. Silver Sponsors ($2,500) receive recognition, 25 complimentary tickets, a half-page playbill ad, and media recognition for one production. SLT is funded through ticket sales, individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and grants. The Spartanburg Little Theatre and Youth Theatre are funded in part by Chapman and its donors, the City and County of Spartanburg, and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
